Living your "best" life through facebook. A very dangerous thing to do. Seeing people only posting the best things in their lives when most of the time you are alone in your room. If you are actually out in a social setting then you are glued to your smart phone and not actually interacting. seemingly happy selfies and pictures of food... a 'social' remedy for anyone feeling perhaps a little detached and lonely? To me that screams and just depicts the word sad. if you were really truely that happy would you need to display it all over facebook to convince people that you are having the time of your life? is it in fact more to convince oneself?

Coming from the point if view of someone who has overcome depression.Going off facebook helped them get through it. The rate of depression is already alarmingly high, excessive and almost constant use of facebook is only aiding an increase. It is almost a way out in an awkward social situation( smart phones) retarding real social interaction which leads to feeling lonely and disconnected. Showing what facebook was designed for and what it had turned in to. people have become obsessed. -for

Discussing the notion that All of these articles about facebook=depression are bogus, none of them are actually a clinical report. People jump to conclusions and dont even actually bother to read the research. they just go ahead and write articles. - against

A weak argument. paying attention to finer details rather than facebook as a whole. More focused on what we are doing on fecebook and the internet. Just another response. - against

It all depends on what angle you are doing your research from. This article argues against the notion and discusses research done on young adolescents using the internet and facebook. "The findings have important implications for clinicians who may prematurely alarm parents about social-media use and depression risks." -- against

Really interesting topic choice. I think you will be able to find lot's of research articles on google scholar for that one. Good luck and I look forward to reading it :)
ReplyDeleteYes, a very original topic. Will be interesting to see what evidence there is to support this argument, and also if perhaps the same depression is evident across all social media or just Facebook.
